🎓 How to Use This GPA Calculator

  1. 1.One row per course. Type the course name if you like (it is just a label), then pick the letter grade you earned and the course's credit hours.
  2. 2.Add or remove rows freely. Use "Add a course" for more classes and the ✕ button to remove one — the GPA recalculates instantly either way.
  3. 3.Credits are the weight. An A in a 4-credit course lifts your GPA more than an A in a 1-credit course; a low grade in a high-credit course hurts more.
  4. 4.Plan ahead. Enter expected grades for courses you are taking now to see the GPA you are on track for — and which class matters most.
  5. 5.Check your school's scale. Most US colleges use this exact 4.0 table, but a few differ slightly. Your official transcript GPA is the one your school calculates.

❓ FAQ

How is GPA calculated?

Each letter grade is converted to grade points on the 4.0 scale (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, F = 0). Multiply each course's points by its credit hours, add all of those together, then divide by the total credit hours. Courses with more credits count more — that is what "weighted by credits" means.

What grade points does each letter grade get?

The standard US scale used here: A+ = 4.0, A = 4.0, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B− = 2.7, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C− = 1.7, D+ = 1.3, D = 1.0, D− = 0.7, F = 0.0. Some schools cap A+ at 4.0 exactly as this calculator does; a few use slightly different values, so check your school's table if precision matters.

What is a good GPA?

On the 4.0 scale, 3.0 is a B average and is considered solid at most colleges; 3.5 and above is strong, and 3.7+ is excellent. Requirements vary — many scholarships and graduate programs look for 3.0–3.5 or higher.
